About the Pre-licensure Nursing Bachelor's Degree Pathway

A pre-licensure bachelor's degree in nursing can open the door to a variety of career and educational options related to advanced degree practice.

Admission Requirements

Admission to the Baccalaureate Nursing Program is determined on a competitive basis. The total number of students admitted to the program is based upon available facilities and faculty. Qualified applicants are admitted to the Baccalaureate Nursing Program annually in the Fall semester.

The Baccalaureate Nursing Program curriculum will meet the requirements for licensure in most states, but will not meet the requirements for licensure in Alaska, Arkansas, Idaho, and Mississippi.

Apply by March 1. Qualified applicants are selected after the posted deadline and selection continues until all spaces in the class are filled.

Criteria for admission:

  • Official high school transcript denoting high school graduation or official GED test score transcript
  • A college GPA of 2.5 (on a 4.0 scale) at the end of the semester in which application is made.
  • A grade of “C” or higher in all pre-nursing course work, which includes the first two semesters and the summer session of the pre-nursing curriculum.
  • International students must demonstrate a minimum TOEFL score of 84 with a minimum English-speaking score of 26 or a minimum Duolingo score of 120 to be considered for admission.

    Note: Students may repeat any required science course only one time to achieve a grade of “C” or better. Science courses must be taken within 5 years of application to be considered during admission process.

To complete the admission process, you must present

  • Completion of health physical.
  • Current CPR Healthcare Provider certification.
  • State and Federal criminal background check.
  • Current negative urine drug screen (a ten-panel screen).

Students ready to commit to a four-year program can earn our rigorous pre-licensure BSN degree. If you've not previously earned any licensure and want to find a competitive role in health care after graduating, this program is structured just for you.

Program Requirements

The School of Nursing considers a grade of “C” (2.0) as the minimum passing grade for all required nursing and non-nursing courses. Courses graded with less than a “C” may result in academic dismissal from the program. Readmission to the nursing program is determined by the School of Nursing policies as printed in the current School of Nursing Student Handbook.
