Apply to receive a $1500 scholarship up to full-tuition when you apply and are accepted.
Respiratory therapists care for patients who have trouble breathing - for example from a chronic respiratory disease, such as asthma or emphysema. Their patients range from premature infants to elderly patients. They also provide emergency care to patients suffering from heart attacks, drowning, or shock.
Applications for Fall enrollment are due April 1.
How to become a Respiratory Therapist
Step 1: Apply to Shawnee State's Respiratory Therapy Program.
Step 2: If accepted in the program you will begin your classes in the Respiratory Therapy Program in the Fall.
Step 3: Complete the Respiratory Therapy Program in just five semesters! Our Respiratory Therapy Program is fully accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC), which means alumni of Shawnee State’s Respiratory Therapy Program have the degree requirements to take the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) exams.
Step 4: Once you have graduated from the Respiratory Therapy Program, you will be eligible to take the Therapist Multiple Choice exam from the NBRC passing at one level you will be awarded your Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) credential and then passing a higher level you are eligible to take the Clinical Simulations Exam (CSE) and passing you will be awarded the Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credentials.
Step 5: Apply for a license to practice respiratory therapy in the state where you will work or want to find a job.
