Tree on SSU campus beside Massie Hall

Shawnee State University is an urban campus in southern Ohio comprising approximately 35 hectares, planted with numerous native and exotic plants over the last few decades.

In 2011, efforts began to inventory trees on campus with location, species, and other data. In 2016, SSU formalized a team concerned with tree care and to develop a management plan in fulfillment of requirements to be recognized as a Tree Campus USA by the National Arbor Day Foundation.

Since that time, several student, faculty, and facilities projects have expanded this work and converted the information into digital format to make the information more available to campus and the community.
