BSHS 1101 - Behavioral Health Foundations

This course as a stepping stone for certification as a Chemical Dependency Assistant (CDCA), Peer Recovery Support Specialist (PRSS), and Qualified Mental Health Specialist (QMHS). This certification requires additional courses and an Internship to meet requirements for CDCA, PRSS, and QMHS. It is designed as a paraprofessional training for individuals with lived experience in mental health issues and/or substance use recovery to work with populations of the same to promote stability and long-term recovery.

BSHS 1102 - Behavioral Health Care

This course is based on the fundamental assumption that substance abusers and their families are a heterogeneous group and must be treated from an individualized perspective. Counseling strategies need to fit the goals and needs of the individual client. During this course, you will develop the skills needed to work either as a substance abuse specialist or as a generalist who must sometimes address substance abuse problems. This course covers materials related to the eligibility requirements for Chemical Dependency Counselor Assistant and Quality Behavioral Health Specialist in the state of Ohio.

BSHS 1103 - Behavioral Health Paraprofessional Internship

This course provides behavioral health paraprofessional instruction through supervised placement while completing 60 on-site clock hours or online scenarios. Particular attention is given to the development of chemical dependency assessment, Qualified Behavioral Health Specialist, and Peer Recovery skills under supervision through an on-site placement in a professional clinical setting.
