Seek advanced certification in Magnetic Resonance Imaging
Now Accepting Applications for Fall 2024
The 9-credit hour post-primary certificate program in MRI provides the didactic and clinical education that meets the structured educational and clinical requirement of the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists. It provides the student with knowledge of image formation in topics related to electromagnetics, signal production, pulse sequences, system components, scanning techniques, patient safety and clinical applications.
Flexible and fast.
The program is designed to be completed in one fall semester.
It will be delivered online through Blackboard. Didactic coursework is asynchronous and will be held in two (2), seven (7) week courses. The clinical course will be held for the entire 15 weeks and is designed to be flexible for the working technologist.
Courses:
Fall 2024
- RDLT 3902 – MRI Physics and Image production
- RDLT 3952 – MRI Procedures and Clinical Applications
- RDLT 3992 – MRI Clinical Experience
Application Requirements:
Applicants to the MRI certificate program must hold a current and valid American Registry of Radiologist Technologist (ARRT) certification.
How to apply:

FAQs:
What level is the program?
The certificate program meets the ARRT requirement for post-primary certification in MRI. However, completion of the clinical requirement is dependent on the student’s commitment to obtaining the necessary number of exams. In addition, passage of the national board exam is not guaranteed.
Please visit the ARRTs website for additional information on the national board exam.
Do I need a current ARRT license to be eligible for the program?
Yes. Only registered technologists with a valid and current ARRT license are eligible to apply for the program.
How many credit hours is the program?
The program is 9 credit hours, 6 credit hours for the didactic courses and 3 credit hours for the clinical course.
What days do I have to go to clinic?
The clinical hours will be flexible to fit the working technologist schedule, however, must be consistent and coordinated with the clinical coordinator and clinical facility.
Can I choose my own clinical facility?
The Radiologic Technology Program at Shawnee State University has designated clinical facilities for the MRI program. All clinical facilities must have a current affiliation agreement and designated preceptors who are registered MRI technologists. The clinical sites will be assigned by the clinical coordinator based on mileage to the site and number of students in the program.
