Shawnee State University has a 24-hour police and security presence on campus, staffed with police and security officers screened and trained in personnel and property protection. SSU officers maintain the security of the physical facilities, patrol campus (on foot and by patrol car), provide escort services, distribute and control campus parking permits, investigate and prepare reports of any criminal activity, and enforce University rules and regulations regarding the unauthorized use of alcohol, use of controlled substances, and weapons violations.

The Department of Public Safety provides assistance to local police, fire and medical emergency responders and assist with traffic related matters involving the campus community. The Department is responsible for public safety services and for developing and maintaining reports of incidents on campus.

Crime Prevention

Crime prevention on campus begins with you. SSU actively encourages cooperation and support of all members of the University community to decrease the opportunities for crime. Lock up your valuables in your residence hall or out of site in the trunk of your locked vehicle. Be aware of your surroundings and immediately report any suspicious activity to the Department of Public Safety. Take part in campus safety and crime prevention programs.
