- Student’s insurance will be billed. The Bear Care Clinic accepts all students, regardless of ability to pay.

The Shawnee State University Bear Care Clinic offers daily convenient access to first-aid services, quick care for minor illnesses and injuries, counseling, mental health, and psychological services, and primary care through a partnership with Compass Community Health, a regional community-based healthcare provider that specializes in primary care and mental health.
Services Provided On-Site:
Primary and First-Aid Care
Stop by the Bear Care Clinic for treatment of minor illnesses, such as colds, flu, headaches, cuts, etc. Our team will evaluate and treat students, and make referrals for higher levels of care, if needed.
Medical Testing
Students may receive medical testing for strep, flu, pregnancy, urine analysis, and TB through the Bear Care Clinic.
Wellness Education & Events
Events and activities aimed at improving the health and wellness of everyone on campus will be organized through the Bear Care Clinic. Look for ongoing announcements and invitations in email and on the SSU App.
Mental Health & Counseling
Professionals in the Bear Care Clinic will provide on-site screening, self-help, mental health resources, and telehealth sessions with licensed independent mental health providers. The team will triage students and make referrals to the most appropriate levels of care including in-person counseling appointments with mental health providers with Compass Community Health’s facility located one mile from campus, crisis centers in the region, and emergency room care provided by Southern Ohio Medical Center.
Vaccinations
Shawnee State will provide campus-wide vaccination clinics for flu and Covid. Immunizations including the human papillomavirus (HPV), meningococcal conjugate (MCV4), meningococcal B (MenB), and tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis (Tdap) vaccines, will be offered through the Bear Care Clinic.
