Graduate with the experience and skills you’ll need to succeed:

• SSU students spend over 750 hours in the field (significantly more than most university candidates in Ohio) and complete a rigorous curriculum that has resulted in a high placement rate.
• All Education Programs in the School of Education are approved through the Ohio Department of Higher Education and CAEP (Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation)
• Majors consistently perform well on the required national pedagogical exams.
• Travel opportunities are available through the School of Education with student teaching positions available in China.
• Close cooperation between the Natural Sciences faculty and the School of Education has resulted in strong content knowledge delivery and a solid tie with area master teachers who regularly serve as Cooperating Teachers.
• Given the program's emphasis on action research, students regularly present at the Celebration of Scholarship research conference at SSU as well as at national and regional conferences.
• The program is guided by dedicated and knowledgeable faculty.
• Basic course work in all areas of science including science methodology and processes
• Advanced course work in chosen teaching field (Life Science, Physical Science, Integrated, or Earth Science)
• Opportunities for science research with expert faculty mentors
• Understanding how adolescents and young adults learn
• Strategies for successfully teaching science to high school students that emphasize inquiry and hands-on approaches to learning
• Experience in the schools ranging from observing, tutoring, instructing small groups, to whole class instruction
