A senior this year at Shawnee State University, Nathan Taylor is looking forward to graduating this semester with his bachelor’s degree in Chemistry. The Russellville, Ohio native first chose SSU once he saw how the low student-to-teacher ratio gave students the opportunity to have a better learning experience in the classroom.

“Shawnee is also affordable and has everything that I wanted,” he said.

Taylor has found peace within his major as he sees how it attempts to explain what the physical world is made up of and why it works the way that it does.

“Once I graduate, I plan on going to physician assistant school,” he said.

Outside of the classroom, Taylor is involved in several organizations including as a founding member of the Hiking Club, which encourages students to explore the Shawnee State Park located not too far from the university.

“I’m in charge of finding places to hike at and bringing snacks for everyone who comes along for the hike,” he said.

Taylor is also a Resident Assistant within the Office of Housing & Residence Life, serving as a mentor for the residents living within his assigned building.

“I help students move in and out each semester and also encourage them to get involved on campus by hosting building events each month,” he said.

Enjoying his experience at SSU, Taylor encourages other students to explore campus and become involved in either an existing club or by starting their own to further expand their opportunities on campus.
