The campus of Shawnee State University in Portsmouth will play the role of the fictitious Columbia State University on Thursday, October 3rd and Friday, October 4th as law enforcement Special Response Teams (SRT) from around southeastern Ohio will take part in an Ohio Homeland Security active aggressor exercise.
Officers from Athens, Chillicothe, Jackson, Logan, Portsmouth, Oak Hill, Ohio University, Rio Grande, and Wellston Police Departments, as well as deputies from Athens, Hocking, Jackson, and Perry County Sheriffs’ Offices, will take part in the exercise that is designed to test their capabilities to respond to an active aggressor situation.
Objectives to be tested during the exercise include Emergency Public Information, Incident Command, Resource Management, and Communications.
Scioto County EMA Director, Larry Mullins, said, “The public will see a lot of activity involving police personnel and vehicles on both days of the exercise. However, there will be no cause for concern because this is only a drill”.
The exercise is being funded by a grant from the FY2022 State Homeland Security Program and Disaster Demons Emergency Management Group of Nelsonville, Ohio is the exercise contractor.
