Shawnee State University’s Office of Admissions will host their annual Plastics and Advanced Manufacturing Day on Friday, Dec. 6. The event welcomes high school students and parents who are interested in learning more about the Plastics Engineering Technology and Advanced Manufacturing programs at SSU.

SSU Plastics Engineering Technology lab

The Plastics Engineering Technology program at SSU is one of four programs in the world that is accredited by the Engineering Technology Accreditation Commission of ABET. Students gain skills within the program to work with manufacturing and consumer businesses to develop plastics components for a variety of consumer and industrial applications. Many graduates of SSU’s program find careers in large manufacturing companies as process engineering, design engineers, and production managers.

Attending students have the opportunity to participate in a variety of activities throughout the day to provide them with more information about SSU’s Plastics Engineering Technology program. The event will offer students and parents interactive workshops, academic and scientific presentations, a panel discussion with industry SSU alumni, and lunch in the Bears’ Den Dining Hall. Students will also have the chance to operate plastics processing equipment and create their choice of a polymer-based plastic product like ice scrapers or Frisbees.

Registration will begin at 9:00 a.m. in the Morris University Center on campus and the event will officially begin at 9:30 a.m. To learn more about the event or to register for SSU’s Plastics and Advanced Manufacturing Day, visit shawnee.edu/plastics-day
