“I became a Welcome Ambassador because I wanted to welcome new students to Shawnee State,” she said.

Upperclassmen who volunteer for the weekend, Welcome Ambassadors help new students transition into college during a weekend full of events prior to the start of the semester. Emphasizing the importance of building and finding your campus community is something that Holsinger hopes to instill in new students as they begin their college career. She also hopes to help students find the answers to their questions and navigate circumstances that may be new to them.

“Weekend of Welcome is your official welcome to Shawnee State,” she said. “There are many services during WOW that a student can go to if they are having trouble. The IT Desk is open if you need help with your Shawnee email or accessing Blackboard, and the Bursar office can help you with your bill.”

Holsinger and her fellow WOW staff want to make sure that students take advantage of asking questions and getting prepared for the new school year. She encourages new students to attend as many Weekend of Welcome activities as they can and check out the services and organizations that are available to them.

Shawnee State University’s Weekend of Welcome will be held Aug. 22-25, 2024 on campus prior to the first day of Autumn 2024 semester on Monday, Aug. 26. To learn more, visit shawnee.edu/wow.
