A sophomore at Shawnee State University, Hailey Bane is eager to showcase her love of campus with new students during Weekend of Welcome.
“I love being a voice on campus,” she said. “This will be my first year as a Welcome Ambassador.”
An Occupational Therapy Assistant major and Clarksburg, Ohio native, Bane hopes to introduce herself as a person that can be relied on for new students to ask their questions as they start their college career.
“I want students to feel welcome when they come to Shawnee and feel like they are just at home,” she said.
Helping guide new students throughout their first weekend on campus, Welcome Ambassadors serve as campus mentors during the weekend activities.
“Weekend of Welcome is a weekend full of events,” Bane said. “When new freshmen come to Shawnee, we want them to feel as if they belong. Student clubs and others can table and show off their organization.”
As the new academic year approaches, Bane encourages new and returning students to take advantage of the resources on display at Weekend of Welcome.
“There is something for everyone, so we want new students to feel excited about being more involved on campus,” she said. “While you are here on campus to get work done, it is important to have social interaction for your mental health. Joining clubs and putting yourself out there on campus can make your whole collage experience.”
Shawnee State University’s Weekend of Welcome will be held Aug. 22-25, 2024 on campus prior to the first day of Autumn 2024 semester on Monday, Aug. 26. To learn more, visit shawnee.edu/wow.
