The Shawnee State University Student Programming Board (SPB) is a student-led organization that hosts student-specific events on campus. Advised by Interim Assistant Director of Student Life Josie Tackett, SPB wants to welcome all students to their events to help them feel welcome on campus and connect with new students throughout the year. Their most-attended events are football watch parties, Friday night movies, bowling nights and, the most popular, Bingo.

Patricia Sparks, SPB Executive Assistant, said there are several key steps setting up for the infamous Bingo nights.
“A few days before we will go to the store and get all the prizes,” Sparks explained. “Then about 30–40 minutes before the event starts, we will go set up everything, make sure everything is in order, and make sure everybody is there.”
Prizes at SPB will range from new items like TVs to SSU shirts and spirit gear, and even school supplies. Helping assist with putting on one of the student body’s favorite games, Sparks compels all students to consider becoming a part of SPB at the end of the year because of the experience and people they will get to work with.
“I joined because of the people,” Sparks said, noting she enjoys the students she works with and gets to know because of her position. “Being active on the board also looks good on resumes.”
The SPB welcomes rising sophomores and upperclassmen who want to work and host events throughout the year. It is an opportunity that provides leadership, organization, and teamwork, as well as creativity in planning and executing new events for the student body throughout the year. The overall mission is to make everyone on campus feel welcome and to have opportunities to make connections and core memories through their college journey.
The process of becoming an SPB members starts during the spring semester each year. The application will be shared by the Office of Student Life and once a student’s application is approved, they will be contacted to set up an interview with the SPB president.
