“I have to go to class at Ohio University in the spring semester for mentorship of the program,” he said. “After the term, I will be placed with a company for a fully paid internship for the summer months.”

The Ohio Export Internship program provides participating small businesses with interns to help the businesses overcome first-time export challenges, as well as improve current export initiatives. The program aims to build the workforce, providing hands-on experience in all aspects of business operation. Students complete coursework at different Ohio universities during the spring semester and are then matched with a business to spend the summer working in the field. Being chosen for this competitive position, Lumsden is grateful for the opportunity to gain experience as he hopes to pursue a career in supply chain management after graduation.

“I always have wanted to get into supply chain management and logistics,” he said. “I want to work a job that is more hands-on.”

As a transfer student at SSU in the Business Management program, Lumsden’s classwork is focused on learning skills and techniques to enhance his decision-making, interpersonal, leadership, organizational, and communication skills. He is looking forward to seeing how this internship opportunity will enhance the skills he’s gained in the classroom. Seeing his own father’s success with this line of work, Lumsden is eager to jumpstart his career and follow in his father’s footsteps.

“I want to gain experience for my future career,” he said. “My dad works within this field which has been a major influence in wanting to pursue this.”

Balancing the expectations of the competitive internship, Lumsden is ready to get started and build his development skills in the business world.
