Aurie Coriell, a Minford, Ohio native, has thrived as a member of the Accounting program at Shawnee State University. A member of the Women’s Soccer team, she is excited to be able to play on the same team as her younger sister while she completes her degree.
“I chose Shawnee because it is financially a better option for me,” she said. “It also is close to home, so I’m able to visit my family whenever I’m free.”
When deciding which degree to pursue while attending college, Coriell wanted to choose something that related to what she enjoyed. She found that an accounting degree presented the opportunity to study mathematics and finance all in one.
“I have always had an interest in finance and numbers, so I picked accounting,” she said. “The accounting program and my advisor have taught me all the opportunities graduates of the accounting program have.”
With a number of career opportunities in the degree field, students enrolled in the SSU Accounting program are prepared to work for private industry, small businesses, hospitals, government agencies and subdivisions, social organizations, and more. Students gain a broad understanding of the field and graduate with the necessary tools to enter the field directly or continue their education in graduate school. Coriell has appreciated learning all the various ways her degree can help her start a rewarding career.
“I’m currently doing my internship with E-Flow Development,” she said. “I work on financial reports to help the owner make better business decisions.”
