Shawnee State University's School of Education has announced it will host the first ever Southern Ohio Science of Reading Symposium, to take place on Jul. 16 & 17, 2024. The event will feature keynote speaker Michelle Elia, a renowned expert in the field of reading education and participants can earn up to five hours of continuing education units (CEUs) each day of the conference.
The symposium will bring together educators, administrators, faculty, researchers, and professionals to discuss the latest advancements in the science of reading through one keynote and 3 breakout sessions each day. Session presenters will be unveiled over the next few weeks, covering a wide range of topics related to reading instruction and literacy development for grades Pre-School-12.
Registration for the symposium is now open, with a cost of $25 per day or $40 for a 2-day pass. Lunch is included with the registration fee, and the first 100 registrants will receive an SSU giveaway bag.
"We are thrilled to host the first ever Science of Reading Symposium at Shawnee State University," said Dr. Gay Lynn Shipley, Assistant Dean and Director of the SSU School of Education. "This event will highlight a very important topic that is on the forefront of current state level education initiatives."
