Shawnee State University invites the Portsmouth community and surrounding region to attend its annual Homecoming Weekend activities on Saturday, Sept. 28. Wrapping up a week of campus activities, SSU Homecoming Weekend is an annual tradition bringing together students, alumni, staff, and the surrounding community.
The annual Homecoming Parade will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 28. The parade route will begin at the SSU Children’s Learning Center on Third Street before moving across the center of campus in front of Massie Hall and ending in the west parking lot of the James A. Rhodes Athletic Center. SSU student organizations and the Homecoming Court will be represented throughout the parade.
The community is also invited to attend the Homecoming Tailgate & Carnival beginning at 11 a.m. and continuing through the Volleyball game against Rio Grande. The event will be held in the west parking lot of the James A. Rhodes Athletic Center adjacent to the Waller Gymnasium and will feature food vendors, a Kid’s Zone with games, a Beer Garden for those of age, and more. Community members can also attend the Pool Party with Shawn E. Bear in the Warsaw Aquatic Center of the James A. Rhodes Athletic Center starting at 2 p.m. for music and games. The Homecoming Royalty Coronation will take place at the conclusion of the volleyball game in the Waller Gymnasium, where twelve SSU student leaders will be recognized for their commitment to campus and the surround community.
