Graduating this spring with her Bachelor of Science in Chemistry, senior Isabella Moore (Hometown: Gallipolis, Ohio) feels a great connection with Shawnee State University and with her degree. Changing her major in her sophomore year, Moore knows her major gives her a vast career field to explore.
“I have a rather unique major, and that alone can prove how dedicated I am to my education,” she said.
Moore found her way to SSU after her older brother graduated from the university several years ago. Once she took her turn on campus, she felt the atmosphere reminded her of home.
“The campus is beautiful, and the staff and students here are so welcoming,” she said.
SSU’s Bachelor of Science in Chemistry, allows students to choose from three tracks within the degree – General, Industrial, and Pre-Pharmacy. Each track prepares graduates for careers in science, and allows students to tailor their degree to their career goals. Many graduates have found jobs working for chemical companies, as well as have continued their education in graduate, medical, or pharmacy school. Faculty members within the program offer research opportunities for every student and provide one-on-one instruction within a dedicated lab space.
“I respect and admire all my professors and can have honest intellectual conversations with them,” said Moore.
Outside of her degree, Moore has been involved in several organizations including as a Resident Assistant, Vice President of the Chemistry Club, a Student Alumni Ambassador, and a member of the Sociology, Math, Bears Mean Business, and Delight student clubs. She also works on campus at the Morris University Center information desk, within the Office of Housing & Residence Life, and as a member of the campus event setup crew.
