A favorite tradition for many students at Shawnee State University, the annual Weekend of Welcome (WOW) serves to introduce new students and welcome back returning students to campus in a weekend filled with activities and events that help them navigate campus before their first day of classes begin. SSU senior Mike Dibble is looking forward to serving once again as a Welcome Ambassador for WOW.

“I love helping new people become ingratiated into our wonderful university,” he said.

Welcome Ambassadors work throughout WOW, interacting with new students and leading each day’s events. The majority are upperclassmen that enjoyed their own WOW and want to ensure new students have a similar experience.

“My favorite part of WOW, aside from making a bunch of new friends, is BINGO,” said Dibble. “Bingo is one of my favorite events on campus and it is a wonderful event to help new students understand student life at Shawnee State University.”

Throughout WOW, new students will be introduced to student services, clubs and organizations, and interact with their roommates and commuter students to meet people before the first day of the semester. As an extension of the orientation process, WOW is designed to help new students make the transition to college life and celebrate the start of a new academic year. Returning students have the opportunity to reconnect with campus life as well as explore opportunities offered by campus services and organizations before the semester begins.

“The thing I am most looking forward to when it comes to WOW is all the new students,” said Dibble. “I can’t wait to meet everyone and for all of us to have a great time together.”

Both new and returning students can register to attend Shawnee State University’s Weekend of Welcome on their MySSU account. View more details at shawnee.edu/wow.
