Shawnee State University’s Student Government Association (SGA) is currently accepting applications to serve on the organization’s Executive Board for the upcoming 2022-2023 school year. Promoting intellectual, social, and cultural opportunities to the SSU campus community, SGA works to give students a voice on campus by representing their interests and addressing their concerns.

“I have been involved with SGA for one year, but I plan to run for office again next year,” said current SGA President, Elizabeth Gillespie. “I definitely made a great decision in pursuing this role, as it has provided me with so many opportunities for personal growth, to help students who are as lost as I was, and to positively impact campus culture.”

SGA encourages all students to become more involved on campus and consider serving within the organization. The experience provides students with the opportunity to build their leadership and communication skills, while also offering a chance to build their resume and job experience. Students serving on the Executive Board find themselves immersed into the interworking of student life on campus.

“I would absolutely recommend being in SGA to other students,” said Gillespie. “Not only is it a great resume-builder, but it also offers students with opportunities to get connected to other clubs and to be aware of what is happening on campus. We often have guest speakers that represent different departments who discuss upcoming events, how to get involved, or what the future looks like for students at Shawnee State.”

SGA elections occur each year for all the positions on the Executive Board – President, Vice President, Secretary, and Club Coordinator. Applications for this year’s elections are due by Monday, Mar. 28 at 12 p.m. To apply, students must have at least a 2.5 cumulative GPA and a 2.5 semester GPA. Any student interested in serving on the executive board of SGA can apply online.
