Shawnee State University will welcome Dr. James Cisneros, Associate Professor of the Department of Literature & World Languages at the University of Montreal, as part of the 2021-2022 Jane M. G. Foster Distinguished Lecture Series starting at 3:30 p.m. via a Zoom conference on Wednesday, Mar. 16. Attendees can watch his presentation in the Morris University Center, Room 215 on SSU’s campus.
Dr. Cisneros’ presentation “Urban Encounters: Spaces of Memory in Argentine Film” will focus on urban environments and the way film works to attempt to capture the city’s daily rhythms and social diversity through some of Argentina’s most important films. Using a comparative framework that takes films from different eras, Dr. Cisneros will analyze how the city’s shared spaces resonate with the seventh art’s characteristic forms: its narrative structure and use of genre, its aesthetics and formal composition, and its use of new digital technologies.
The Jane M. G. Foster Distinguished Lecture Series brings world-renowned authors, leaders, and experts in a variety of academic fields to campus each year. The series is made possible through a fund established by Jane. M. G. Foster in the SSU Development Foundation. The community is invited to attend this lecture, which is free of charge.
