Shawnee State University’s Office of the President is currently seeking applications to fill two Student Trustee positions to serve on the university’s Board of Trustees. Both of the current SSU Student Trustees – Eli Cole and Cassidy Starnes – will be graduating this spring, opening up both positions for eligible students to apply. Membership on SSU’s Board of Trustees includes two Student Trustees who are appointed by the Governor upon recommendation by the university.
Responsibilities of Student Trustees include learning how SSU functions – its uniqueness, strengths, and needs – to prepare, regularly attend, and actively participate in Board meetings and committee assignments, to support the Board and work with fellow Board members in a spirit of cooperation, and to help the Board formulate policies for the University and avoid administration of those policies unless specifically authorized to do so by the Board.
Qualifications for the appointment of SSU Student Trustees include current enrollment and good academic, social, and financial standing. The Board of Trustees meets five times each year and Student Trustees should organize their class schedules in a way that enables them to fully participate in Board meetings.
A Student Trustee will be assigned to serve on either the Board’s Academic & Student Affairs Committee or the Finance & Administration Committee. Trustees are expected to attend their respective committee meetings as well as the meetings of the Board.
In order to be eligible for one of the Trustee positions, students must be an Ohio resident, complete the school’s application packet, submit a resumé, write a short essay on why they should be considered, and complete an interview with SSU President Jeff Bauer.
