“I came to Shawnee wanting to be a computer engineer, but quickly realized it was not for me,” she said. “Dr. (Steven) Rader pointed me in the right direction – sport management.”

Goozey, a member of SSU’s soccer and tennis teams, knew the Sport Management program would align well with her enjoyment of athletics.

“I have a love for athletics,” she said. “I’ve always wanted to work for a major league sports team.”

Goozey found her way to SSU first after researching colleges and deciding to attend a soccer clinic at SSU.

“A group of my high school friends and I researched colleges in Ohio one day, and we all became interested in Shawnee State,” she said. “Then I began to look into the soccer program here. I attended a soccer clinic and then received an offer to play.”

Goozey found her favorite college relationships her freshman year at SSU, and is thankful to have developed them into ones that will last even after graduation.

“My favorite memories are from freshman year when I met my two best friends Madison and Hannah along with meeting my boyfriend, Michael,” she said. “I am thankful that playing soccer here brought me the three most important people in my life.”

After graduation, Goozey will be going to Florida to pursue a short-term internship.

“I will be working for Disney World in Orlando, Florida after graduation,” she said. “I will be looking into other internships or jobs with major league soccer teams after my time with Disney.”

Looking towards her upcoming graduation, Goozey is thankful for the friendships she made and for her family support throughout her education.

“I have met so many amazing people at Shawnee and I’m thankful for every moment I shared with them,” she said. “I want to thank my mom for pushing me and always having my back. I will forever be thankful for the love and motivation she has given me throughout my life.”

The SSU Sport Management program equips students to explain the role of sports in society as a whole and in specific societal segments, demonstrate knowledge of concepts of management and leadership, apply fundamental marketing concepts to the sport industry, explain legal concepts and applications within the sport industry, and explain concepts of morality and theories of ethics as they apply to sport.
