Shawnee State University’s Office of the Provost has announced the appointment of Dr. Kim Dinsey-Read to the Director of the university’s School of Nursing, beginning Jul. 15. With over 30 years of experience, Dr. Dinsey-Read brings nursing leadership, clinical, scholarship, and teaching experience to the position.

“Dr. Dinsey-Read’s experience will help us position the School of Nursing as the anchor of the new College of Health & Human Services,” SSU Interim Provost Kimberly Inman said.

Dr. Dinsey-Read was most recently the Director of Nursing and Chief Nurse Administrator at Northern Kentucky University. She holds a Ph.D. in Nursing Philosophy, Cognate in Public Health from the University of Hawaii at Manoa, Honolulu, Hawaii, a Master of Business Administration from St. Catherine University, St. Paul, Minnesota, a Master of Science in Nursing from Northern Kentucky University, Highland Heights, Kentucky, and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing also from Northern Kentucky University. 

Dr. Dinsey-Read is completing her post-Master of Science in Nursing studies toward becoming a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner and began her nursing career in 1986 after earning a Health Science Diploma from St. Lawrence College, Brockville, Ontario, Canada. 

Serving those just beginning their nursing educational journey to licensed nurses seeking high-quality educational opportunities, the SSU School of Nursing continues to respond to the demand for more prepared nurses. The school is in the process of developing plans for additional pathways to nursing, including accelerated degrees and the recently announced addition of its newest program, the online Master of Science in Nursing.
