Graduating with both her bachelor and master degrees from Shawnee State University, Erica Ramey has over a decade of experience working as an occupational therapist. She is currently working at Montgomery County’s Stillwater Center, an intermediate care facility serving as home for children and adults within the county with profound developmental disabilities and/or significant medical needs.
“Having worked in skilled nursing and home health settings, I specialize in geriatrics, custom wheelchair seating, and Alzheimer’s care,” she said, acknowledging expertise has shaped her holistic and client-centered approach to therapy.
Entering SSU’s Post-Professional Occupational Therapy Doctorate program (PP-OTD), Ramey has been able to expand her clinical knowledge and expertise, while pursuing her passion through the culminating capstone project that is centered around her interests in the field.
“My doctoral focus centers on designing meaningful and engaging day program activities for individuals with severe and profound intellectual and developmental disabilities,” she said.
Through the program, Ramey is driven to advance both her career and the field of occupational therapy.
“My professional goal is to make a lasting impact by developing innovative, evidence-based programs that improve the lives of underserved populations while advocating for the role of occupational therapy in diverse practice settings,” she said.
SSU’s PP-OTD program is designed for the working healthcare professional, allowing enrolled students to benefit from a flexible online course format. Students can also choose their own pace to complete their coursework and can finish their degree requirements in as little as 16 months.
