Having a love of video games, Faith Leonard wanted to pursue that passion by enrolling in Shawnee State University’s nationally-ranked game design program.
“Video games have always been a big part of my life and I really wanted to spend my career in games,” she said. “I was lucky enough to live in Ohio and have the game art program here that it all felt almost meant to be.”
Making connections across campus, Leonard has been grateful for the professors within her program that have pushed her to succeed.
“I feel like most people I’ve come across at SSU have helped me in some way through giving advice or pushing me to my full potential,” she said. “The gaming professors truly care for the students and want them to succeed which in itself is such a huge push for our success. It can be hard as a woman in a male-dominated industry, but here the professor’s care and help push for inclusion.”
Collaborating with the Office of Career Services, SSU’s Women’s & Gender Equity Center is celebrating students who “Flip the Script” on gender stereotypes and enter the programs they are passionate about. Throughout the week and into April, the center will be sharing several spotlights to encourage others to “Flip the Script”.
