Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT) provide out of hospital emergency medical care and transportation for critical and emergent patients that access the emergency medical services (EMS) system. EMTs have the basic knowledge and skills necessary to stabilize and safety transport patients ranging from non-emergency and routine medical transports to life threatening emergencies.

Emergency Medical Technicians function as part of a comprehensive EMS response system, under medical direction. EMT’s are a critical link between the scene of an emergency and the health care system. Students can choose to continue their education and become Advanced Emergency Medical Technicians (AEMT), paramedics, or transition into another allied health career. All EMT students are taught to a national standard of care in addition to receiving training specific to the State of Ohio EMS.

CLLE 103 is the initial EMT training course offered at Shawnee State University, Center for Lifelong Learning. CLLE 103 is a non-credit, 150-hour course that is offered in the fall and spring of each year. The 150-hour course includes 10 hours of prehospital field time and 10 hours of emergency department clinical time. 10 patient contacts are required, including one pediatric patient. A list of agencies is distributed with the course orientation.
