Shawnee State has an outstanding BS chemistry program that allows students to choose from three tracks within the degree. Each track prepares graduates for careers in science, and allows students to tailor their degree to their career goals. Our graduates have found jobs working for chemical companies, as well as continuing their education in graduate, medical, or pharmacy school.

There are currently three tracks within the chemistry program at Shawnee State:
The BS Chemistry: General Track was designed using guidelines set forth by the American Chemical Society. It is a rigorous, comprehensive program that contains coursework in all areas of modern chemistry: analytical, biochemistry, inorganic, organic, and physical chemistry. This is the gold-standard program for the chemistry professional. It will prepare you for careers in chemistry, pharmacy, and research. Graduates will be well-prepared for direct entry into the chemical workforce.
Our BS Chemistry: Industrial Track provides a broad overview of chemistry while also completing coursework in geology, biology and statistics. There is built in flexibility to allow additional coursework in mineralogy, biology, or STEM computer programming.
Our BS Chemistry: Pre-Pharmacy Track provides foundation course work in four areas of Chemistry: organic, physical, analytical, and biochemistry while also completing the prerequisite courses for pharmacy school. This degree program meets all of the common pre-requisites for pharmacy school admission, and allows students to earn a BS in chemistry before entering pharmacy school. Be sure to meet with our pre-pharmacy advisor, Dr. Derek Jones, to make sure you will have all of the pre-requisites for the specific pharmacy program(s) of your choice.
