The 36-credit curriculum has three components: a 15-credit core, 12 credits of mathematics electives, and a 9-credit applied research sequence.
- Core (15 credits): choose five from Abstract Algebra I & II, Regression I & II, and Mathematical Analysis I & II
- Mathematics electives (12 credits): choose four from Advanced Linear Algebra, Computational Linear Algebra with Python, Foundations of Geometry, Number Theory, Probability I, Complex Variables, Topology, and the core courses you didn't use
- Applied research (9 credits): Quantitative Methods I, Quantitative Methods II and Test Theory, and a three-course Applied Research sequence (I, II, III) culminating in a graduate-level research project
The Applied Research sequence is the hands-on heart of the program. You'll design, conduct, and present an original mathematics research project under faculty supervision — building the same skills you'd use as a teacher modeling inquiry for your students or as a Ph.D. candidate moving into a dissertation.
