Shawnee State’s Erika Martin jump-starts business through entrepreneur program

A senior at Shawnee State University, Erika Martin, has had the opportunity to jump-start her own business venture with the help of the Kricker Innovation Hub (KIH) Entrepreneur Fellows program. The Hillsboro, Ohio native and member of the SSU Women’s Golf team, Martin wanted to explore her interests and create her own brand of women’s golf apparel.

Shawnee State University participates in BOLD compact; offering debt relief to students returning to college

Shawnee State University is one of eight colleges in the state of Ohio participating in the BOLD (Be Ohio’s Latest Degree holder) compact. An initiative of the Strategic Ohio Council for Higher Education (SOCHE), the compact has a goal of bringing stopped-out students back to college to finish their degrees.

Shawnee State University receives nearly $850,000 in Choose Ohio First Scholarship funding

Shawnee State University has received $849,909.90 from the Ohio Department of Higher Education in Choose Ohio First (COF) scholarship funding. As part of a statewide strategy to develop STEM talent throughout the state of Ohio, SSU has received funding through the COF program for the past five years for various STEM programs.

SSU business student secures competitive internship through the Ohio Department of Development

Shawnee State University junior JR Lumsden was selected to participate in the Ohio Export Internship program through the Ohio Department of Development. A Toledo, Ohio native and member of the Men’s Basketball team, Lumsden is majoring in Business Management and will be spending his upcoming semester preparing for the summer internship.

Oak Ridge Boys coming to the Vern Riffe Center for the Arts for “American Made Farewell Tour”

The Vern Riffe Center for the Arts (VRCFA) at Shawnee State University will welcome the Oak Ridge Boys on Tuesday, Nov. 21. Marking their 19th appearance at the VRCFA, their performance is part of their “American Made Farewell Tour” and will take place in the Eloise Covert Smith Theater of the VRCFA.

Shawnee State University and City of Portsmouth considering property transfer of Branch Rickey Park and Spartan Stadium

Tonight, the City of Portsmouth will begin consideration of a property transfer that includes Branch Rickey Park, Spartan Stadium, and several acres of adjacent fields and parking from the City to Shawnee State University. 

Shawnee State University to host Veteran’s Recognition Ceremony on Nov. 9

Shawnee State University’s Office of Military & Veteran Services invites the public to attend Veteran’s Day activities held on campus on Thursday, Nov. 9. With Veteran Displays set up in the Morris University Center lobbies starting at 10 a.m., the annual Veteran’s Recognition Ceremony will take place beginning at 12 p.m. in the Morris University Center Ballroom.
