Felicity Kelley, a Huntington, West Virginia native discovered her niche in Shawnee State University’s Dental Hygiene program.

“I have always wanted to be in dental,” she said. “Shawnee was the closest to home and gave me the opportunity to have a flexible schedule where I am still able to spend time with my friends and family.”

The SSU Dental Hygiene program spans five semesters, equipping students for a profession in dental and oral health. Upon completion, graduates will be prepared for employment in clinics or private dental practices, delivering an array of dental and oral services, along with home care guidance and dietary counseling.

Kelley not only values the program's flexibility but also cherishes its strong sense of community.

“I love how close-knit it is,” she said. “There are only 25 people in our program and we’re all super close to each other and our professors. We’re able to talk to them about anything and create bonds which you just can’t do at larger universities.”

As a sophomore, Kelley assumes the role of class president in the program.  In this capacity, she represents the class as a delegate at the annual ODHA (Organization for Dental Hygienists in Ohio) session, manages the dental hygiene social media pages, and collaborates with fellow class officers on class-related decisions.
