U.S. News & World Report Best Colleges rankings named SSU 36th in the Midwest for Social Mobility, up three spots from a year ago.

Shawnee State University continues to climb the ranks of schools whose students make the most of their opportunity to access higher education.
This month U.S. News & World Report Best Colleges rankings named SSU 36th in the Midwest for Social Mobility, up three spots from a year ago.
The ranking recognizes how well universities enroll and graduate students who receive federal Pell Grants, which are awarded to students considered economically-disadvantaged. This year, 51% of Shawnee State students will receive a Pell Grant.
"Shawnee State University is built not only to provide access to underserved populations, but to provide students program excellence and what they need to succeed," said Shawnee State University President Eric Andrew Braun.
The report also named Shawnee State as a top public school for the Midwest at 39th, the only Ohio school to make the list.
In addition to the most recent recognition, Shawnee State is also the only open access public Carnegie Opportunity College in Ohio. The distinction highlights schools that admit a significant percentage of students with financial need and whose graduates demonstrate high levels of success in career placement and socio-economic improvement.
