Strategic Planning Themes

During our strategic planning process, we explored three themes during community forums. Members throughout campus and the community participated in these sessions

Theme 1

Shawnee State as an Accessible University

Community forum participants explored the following questions:

  1. Shawnee State University was created to make a college education more accessible for students in our region. Today, the ways in which we interpret what it means to be "open access" are different than 30 years ago. What are the most important aspects of "open access" as currently practiced at Shawnee State University?
  2. What are the advantages and disadvantages of "open access" as currently practiced at SSU?
  3. What do you see as the critical aspects of an accessible college education for a new generation?

Theme 2
Academic Programs

Community forum participants explored the following questions:

  1. What qualities give an academic program competitive advantage in student recruitment?
  2. Which SSU academic programs have competitive advantage locally, regionally, nationally, internationally?
  3. What can SSU do to broaden our competitive advantage into the future?

Theme 3
Serving Our Clients & Community

Community forum participants explored the following questions:

  1. Whether defined through the for-profit business expression “customer service” or the professional societies and non-profits term “client service” public universities are considered service organizations.  How would you define our university’s roles as a service organization?
  2. In what ways does the University meet the needs of its students?
  3. In what ways does the University meet the needs of the community?
  4. What services do we need to offer or improve to better meet the needs of our students and community?
