SSU is an excellent choice for military veterans due to its small class sizes which allow faculty to better understand the needs of veteran students.

The university also has an active student veteran club, counseling tailored to the needs of military veterans, and a dynamic Office of Military and Veteran Services office that supports students as they adjust to college-level academic work.

Top Military Benefits Used at Shawnee State

Ohio National Guard – Chapter 1606 (MGIB)  

The Ohio National Guard Scholarship covers all tuition and general fees.  

Dependent Benefits – Chapter 35 (DEA) 

Tuition assistance is provided for dependents of veterans. Full tuition is also provided to dependents through The Ohio War Orphans Scholarship. 

Post 9/11 GI Bill ® — Chapter 33 

Covers up to 100% of all tuition, general fees and course fees and includes a book stipend. Offered to veterans and can be transferred to dependents.

The mission of Shawnee State University Veteran Services is to assist America's veterans, current service members, their family members, and their survivors in obtaining all federal and state educational benefits and entitlements they have earned by serving in the United States military, and to provide guidance and support services that will aid veterans in their transition to academic and civilian life.
