Students must meet the following eligibility requirements to participate in SSU Upward
- Income/Parental Education
Student is low-income according to U.S. Department of Education Guidelines and a potential first generation college student, meaning that neither parent has completed a baccalaureate degree.
The student is recommended by at least two school officials as having potential for success in college, but being unlikely to seek admission without additional support.
Student is currently a freshman enrolled in one of the target schools.
Student demonstrates academic need with potential to complete a postsecondary education program as determined by the Director of the Upward Bound Program.
The above are criteria specified in the federal TRiO program legislation and regulations currently governing the program.
