Promotion and Tenure Matrices

As a result of the department and University-wide committee efforts, the following Criteria, Evidence, and Assessment Matrices have been developed. If your department matrix is below, you may use it to begin development of your promotion and tenure materials. Of course, consultation with your department chair and your Promotion and Tenure Committee is encouraged.

If your department matrix is not located below, contact your department chair for specific information on department promotion and tenure criteria. It is highly recommended that you review the matrices of other departments to inform the development of promotion and tenure materials. The University-wide committee reviewed all submitted department criteria to develop materials and to prepare the following matrices to help ensure consistency of process and rigor. These matrices provide examples of how other departments are approaching this process.

Click on the following Department Matrices to view the criteria for Excellence in Teaching, Substantial and Outstanding Service, and Substantial and Outstanding Scholarship. You may also click on the department link under each promotion area to see the matrix for each department.
