Interested in Applying
If you are interested in applying for admission to Shawnee State University, please visit our Application Information page to review and begin the application process.
International students are required to accept the cost of university health insurance or produce proof of adequate insurance while in the United States. Undergraduate international students are required to live on campus for their first year at SSU. For more information, go to Housing and Residence Life Web page.
To be considered for admission, all required materials described in the International Students Application Packet Checklist must be received six months before the beginning of your planned enrollment term. Those international applicants who are accepted for admission will receive an acceptance letter and an I-20 form from SSU.
Please Note: The acceptance letter and I-20/DS-2019 will not be issued until the Office of Admission has received all required materials. Once we issue both documents to you, use them to secure a student visa to the United States.
English Requirment: An official score of 500 (paper-based), or 60 (internet-based), at a minimum, on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or 5.5 on the International English Language Testing System (IELTS), or 4.0 on iTEP, or 80 on the Michigan English Language Assessment Battery (MELAB) is required for admission to a degree program for students whose native language is not English. TOEFL can send your scores directly to SSU. For TOEFL to do so it will need our code. Shawnee State University’s code is 1790. If English is your first language this is not required.
Important Note: It could take a long time to process your student visa at your local/regional U.S. Embassy/U.S. Consulate. We recommend that you apply for a visa as soon as you receive a notification of acceptance from SSU.

Students who would like to work in the United States can check the E-Verify Website to find out their eligibility status. The links below provide easy access to E-Verify information for qualified F-1 students with a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics and who are seeking employment by businesses enrolled in the E-Verify program.
