Briggs Online:
April
2008
Hey Folks,
Well, the excitement is building up. We are
only two months away from another wonderful
summer. Preparations for the different trips
and activities have begun. Almost all of the
classes have been set. I am very much looking
forward to this summer because I feel that we
have a great group this year. Stew and I
believe that the new students will fit very
nicely into our UBMS family. Like we said
before there were some VERY difficult
decisions. Please keep up with the homework and
do the things that we ask so we do not have to
replace your spot this summer.
Seniors—it’s almost time! I’m sure each and
every one of you are very excited about these
last two months. Please do not slack off
though. I know that it can be very tough when
you are so close to the end, the weather is much
nicer outside, and you just want to relax and be
done. Always remember that the grades you make
now are just as important as the grades that you
made at the beginning of the year. If there is
anything that I can do to help in your
transition from high school to college, please
let me know. I really hope that the Upward
Bound Math Science program has helped you
prepare for this next step in your life and that
you know we are always here for you whenever
needed. If you have not turned in your ACT
scores, please do so as soon as possible. Also,
if you have received any other information (SAR,
college acceptance letters, scholarship
notifications, etc.) please send us copies.
Our Saturday Activity is April 19th.
Again, some of you have already missed your 2
unexcused absences…be careful! Our parent
meeting is set for May 3rd! There
was a typo in the letter that was sent out: it
should read Saturday, May 3rd. This
is a mandatory meeting. You must attend with
one or both of your parents. We will be talking
about Upward Bound, the summer schedule, taking
a tour of the residence halls, and giving time
for you and your parents to ask questions. You
will also be putting in your roommate request
and choosing your classes for the summer. So,
please be in attendance.
Enjoy the weather. Keep in touch with us and we
will see you soon!

Spring is finally
here! The sun is bright and flowers are blooming; it’s
amazing. I know that many of you, including myself, are
wishing to push aside the books and enjoy the warmth. But
classes are yet to be dismissed for summer break, so you
must keep working hard to reach your academic goals. We only
have a few weeks left; make the most of it, especially the
seniors!
Also, I know that
are some newcomers that were recently accepted. Congrats to
all of you! I can’t wait to meet everyone! If anyone has
concerns, please write me, I’d love to help.

willing is not enough, you must do.”

Homework
Assignment
Remember, it is essential we
receive your assignment. If you fail to complete
any assignment, you may be considered ineligible for
college visits as well as the upcoming summer program.
April Homework:
Write an introduction about yourself
welcoming the new students to the
UBMS family. Also include what you
look forward to the most this
summer, some of your favorite
memories from being a participant in
UBMS, and also what the program has
done for you personally. This
assignment should be at least a half
page, but you must include
everything. The introductions will
be given to the new students at our
Parent Meeting on May 3rd!
They MUST be turned in by May 2nd.
Please
note: These assignments must be completed on time and done
correctly or your spot will be filled with a new student.
Assignments should be
sent to Steve's e-mail address:

UBMS Photo Page
Heather Holland
came up with the idea of sharing summer photos with one another
through the internet. She has setup a webpage through photobucket.com in which UBMS participants can share their photos
and order a CD of photos if they desire. The following are
directions and a link so that you can view and upload your own
photos.
-
save your pictures to a folder on your computer
-
go to
www.photobucket.com
-
put in these two items:
sign in name:
UBMSSummerFUN
password:
2msfamily -
click on browse and find the folder your pictures
are in
-
double click on the picture (it will bring you back
to the main page) then click submit
-
it’ll take some time
depending on how fast or slow your computer is, but your picture
will load up there.
-
keep adding pictures from the summer, the final
trip, anything to do with UBMS
