Bound Math Science Program Information
The Upward Bound Math Science Program is designed to
provide students in Appalachian Ohio, Kentucky, and West Virginia
with an exciting learning experience in the math and science fields.
The Upward Bound Math Science Center at Shawnee State University
provides academic, social, recreational, cultural and counseling
services in order to generate the skills, motivation, and
self-confidence necessary for students to succeed in a university
math or science program.
The program is designed to expand the students’
math and science abilities, and help prepare them for a math or
science program at the university level. This is accomplished in two
ways.
During the summer, students will be part of a
six-week, residential program at Shawnee State University. While
living on campus they will be taking intensive classes in the math
and science areas, along with enrichment courses. They will also be
involved in social and recreational activities, and have the
opportunity to travel to interesting places. Students will get to
know what college life is like through all of these different
components.
During the academic year students will be given
assignments via phone and internet by professors that they will
complete. There will also be opportunities for the students to
participate in weekend activities at times throughout the year.
