Upward Bound Admission Criteria

Students must meet the following eligibility requirements to participate in SSU Upward Bound:

  • Income/Parental Education
    Student is low-income according to U.S. Department of Education Guidelines and a potential first generation college student, meaning that neither parent has completed a baccalaureate degree. 

  • Recommendations
    The student is recommended by at least two school officials as having potential for success in college, but being unlikely to seek admission without additional support. 

  • Enrollment/Age
    Student is currently a freshman enrolled in one of the target schools. 

  • Academic
    Student demonstrates academic need with potential to complete a postsecondary education program as determined by the Director of the Upward Bound Program. 

The above are criteria specified in the federal Trio program legislation and regulations currently governing the program.
