Personal Responsibility

The cooperation and involvement of students and employees is absolutely necessary to ensure the safety and security of the campus. Therefore, it is incumbent on all members of the Shawnee State University community to contribute to its well-being and help with crime prevention.

Students and employees must assume responsibility for their own safety and security by taking simple, common sense precautions, such as staying in well-lighted areas and walking with companions at night. Valuables should never be left unattended and should be marked with a personal identification number in case of theft. Automobiles should be locked at all times. Vigilance of our surroundings and awareness of events in our environment are critical in avoiding or stopping potential criminal activities. Persons who don’t belong in a particular area or who are engaged in suspicious activity should be reported immediately.

To be fully effective, crime prevention requires the active, cooperative efforts of the entire University community. By working together, a more safe and secure environment in which to live and learn can be achieved at Shawnee State University.
