 Job Description Responsible for coaching and developing two (2) varsity sports programs* and the overall administration of athletic facilities operations and equipment purchasing/management. 
 Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Sports Management or a related administrative or physical education field; 1-2 years related experience in teaching, coaching or program management in one of the current vacant coaching positions which includes men’s golf, soccer, cross country, baseball and/or women’s soccer, volleyball, cross country, softball, or tennis.

 GENERAL SUMMARY

Management of two athletic team programs; principle administrator for SSU athletic facilities; serves as primary contact for all athletic equipment purchases; preparation of reports for equipment purchases, facilities and department in general; assist director with administration of department.  

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1.     Overall operation and development of two SSU athletic team programs including, but not limited to, recruitment, game and practice management, supervision of student athletes and assistant coaches, fiscal management, fund raising and public relations. 

2.     Acts as principle administrator for SSU athletic facilities.  Communicates and coordinates facility usage with all athletic teams, SSU campus groups and the community at large.  Works closely with SSU Facilities, Planning and Construction on the maintenance, expansion, renovation and construction of athletic facilities. 

3.     Assume the role of Athletic Equipment Director responsible for all athletic equipment purchases including, but not limited to:

a.     Ordering and issuing equipment for coaches and student athletes;

b.    Care, maintenance and storage of athletic equipment and gear;

c.     Works with coaches to solicit vendors for purchasing;

d.    Collects and inventories current equipment;

e.     Creates a calendar/schedule for ordering and purchasing of equipment for athletic teams and the athletic department;

f.     Works in collaboration with Purchasing to develop bid and purchasing documents to provide the best purchase price for equipment and supplies;

g.    Management of uniforms for all teams, including diligence to ensure a comprehensive and coordinated uniform look for all teams and coaches. 

4.     Prepare budget reports for athletic department equipment purchases for each SSU athletic team and the department in general. 

5.     Prepare reports on usage, condition and opportunities for improvement of SSU athletic facilities. 

6.     Assist the athletic director in interviewing, hiring, training and orienting athletic department personnel and the department in general. 

7.     Other duties as may be assigned by Athletic Director for the success of student athletes and the athletic department. 

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

1.     Knowledge of the theories and practices of physical education and program management as normally obtained through completion of a Bachelor’s degree in Sports Management or a related administrative or physical education field. 

2.     Approximately one to two years prior related experience in teaching, coaching or program management needed in order to gain practical knowledge of the field.  

3.     Experience with computer programs and applications. 

4.     Interpersonal and communication skills needed in order to coordinate department activities, prepare and disseminate sports information, and to lead assigned staff. 

5.     Analytical skills needed in the coordination and maintenance of facilities and the development and evaluation of services. 

WORKING ENVIRONMENT

Normal office environment with some exposure to chemicals and machines when troubleshooting equipment and to the hazards of driving when accompanying athletic teams during travel. 

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP(S)

Reports to the Director of Athletics.
