            Shawnee State University’s Christopher Kacir, associate professor of psychology, has received the “Excellence in Teaching” award, sponsored by the College of Arts and Sciences.
Students and faculty members may nominate faculty members from several departments including English and Humanities, Fine, Digital and Performing Arts, Mathematics, Natural Science, Social Science and Teacher Education.
            Nominations are based on the professor’s ability to demonstrate the ability to effectively deliver course material, to promote critical thinking and encourage students to excel, an enthusiasm and commitment to teaching, the currency in the discipline and the innovativeness and creativity the professor possesses.
            “Students speak highly of Dr. Kacir’s ability to motivate his subject matter and deliver course lectures in an effective and entertaining manner,” said Doug Darbro, associate professor of mathematics who nominated Kacir for the award. “He is well deserving of the award. “
            This is the second year SSU has participated in awarding the “Excellence in Teaching” award.
            “This award is part of an effort to draw attention to the excellent teaching staff SSU has created,” said Dr. Timothy Scheurer, Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. “And I think it’s great that we recognize excellence in teaching at SSU.”
            This is Kacir’s second year of being nominated for the “Excellence in Teaching Award.” He was presented the award on Tuesday, Sept. 22, along with $300.
            “I am pleased and honored to be selected,” said Kacir. “For me, teaching is the most rewarding work I’ve ever done and I strive to be the best teacher I can be, and I really appreciate the recognition from my colleagues and students from this award.”
