Shawnee State University Helps Clean Up City

            Shawnee State University students, faculty and staff worked together to help with the first County-Wide Cleanup Day in a coordinated effort, the SSU/Ohio Campus Compact AmeriCorps VISTA collaboration. Nearly 200 people from the Shawnee State community participated picking up 170 bags of trash. Eight of the university’s athletic teams participated with representatives and coaches from men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s soccer, men’s cross country, baseball, golf and women’s tennis. Groups cleaned up the river and Front Street area, the new Portsmouth High School stadium, down Washington Street from Second to Eighth streets and along U.S. 52 from Taco Bell to the Portsmouth Little Theatre.
