An anonymous donor has made a donation of $525 to Shawnee State University for creative writing events.
A Creative Writing Fund was created from the donation to encourage students to express themselves through writing whether it is fiction, non-fiction or poetry.
Assistant Professor Neil Carpathios, who is in charge of creative writing projects at SSU, has control over the funds to use for creative writing events.
"I will be using money from the donated Creative Writing Fund to support the annual Creative Writing Awards," Carpathios said. "I have established the SSU Student Writer of Promise Award which is given each year to a student who exhibits great promise for future excellence in creative writing."
This spring will be the third year for the writing competition sponsored by the Scribes of the Round Table.
The money that is donated will also be used for any other expenses incurred at the Creative Writing Awards.
Anyone is welcome to donate to the fund throughout the year. To donate to the fund, contact the SSU director of Development Foundation Eric Braun at (740) 351-3257 or e-mail ebraun@shawnee.edu.
