Groovaloo to perform at Shawnee State University
The dance team Groovaloo will be debuting Shawnee State
University with hip-hop, break dancing and “jaw-dropping”
displays of athleticism at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 26,
2010, at SSU’s Vern Riffe Center for the Arts.
On Wednesday,
Dec. 16, the 15-member cast will be performing on national
TV on the season finale of “So You Think You Can Dance.”
Groovaloo is
best known for their breakout winning performance on NBC’s
“Superstars of Dance” and stage performances at the El
Portal Theatre in Los Angeles and the Joyce Theater in New
York City.
The show’s
intertwined stories chronicle the struggles, hopes and
triumphs of the cast as they discover the true meaning of
family and share what it’s like to be “in the circle.”
Based on this
award-winning troupe’s true-to-life experiences and told by
the dancers who lived them, Groovaloo has the authenticity
of “A Chorus Line”-like presentation and the energy of a
stomp as it takes the audience through the diverse world of
hip hop dance.
Groovaloo has
inspired audiences from all walks of life to celebrate their
passion and purpose, revealing the heart and soul behind
this incredible art form.
The Los
Angeles Times says of this innovative dance ensemble, “...
15 performers ripple like ocean waves, shake like earthquake
zones and spin like corkscrews. These performers from a wide
variety of cultures and communities, have come together to
create something positive. There’s real human drama onstage
…”
Special
student group tickets, rush tickets and senior and family
discounts are available. Contact Casey Glenn at the McKinley
Box Office at (740) 351-3600. Tickets are also available at
ticketmaster.com and Kroger Stores. Visit Groovaloo.com and
You Tube for a video preview.
The Southern
Ohio Performing Arts Association and Shawnee State
University are presenting the performance as part of the
Family Pops Series and it is sponsored by the United States
Enrichment Corporation.
