Fantastic Fall
Fossil Festival to Take Place at Shawnee State University
The Shawnee State University Geology Club will be hosting a
free Fantastic Fall Fossil Festival on Saturday, Nov. 21
from 10 a.m. to noon in the basement of Massie Hall, Room
B30.
The event is for all age groups and will offer the
experience of learning about fossils but also about the
geology of Ohio.
“We are going to do some mini lectures geared towards
different age groups on different topics,” said Kurt
Shoemaker Ph.D., associate professor of geology.
Crafts will be offered for children to do and they will
learn about fossil forms and the types of environments where
a fossil might be found. Children can receive their own
personal fossil for free while they last and will be able to
find their own fossils in a sand box.
Anyone who has ever found a fossil or a unique rock can
bring it to the festival if they are not sure what it is,
and the professors and students may be able to identify it.
Fossil gifts will be available at the festival for
purchasing. The event is free and open to the public. For
more information, call Shoemaker at (740) 351-3395.
