Shawnee State University's French author, artist and digital art instructor Bastien Lecouffe Deharme presents a one-man show, "Process," at the Appleton Gallery in the Vern Riffe Center for the Arts.
Deharme has created artwork for famous authors like Chuck Palahniuk, Franck Herbert, Alfred Bester, Theodore Sturgeon and Robin Hobb, among others. He is the cover artist for Gallimard Publishing, a major French publisher.
He is a graphic novel artist illustrator and author of "Memories of Retrocity," a novel published in 2011 in France. He teaches digital painting, digital art and photo manipulation with Adobe Photoshop, ArtRage and Painter at SSU.
"I like to take pieces of our reality and to make them switch to another," he said. "The book I wrote, 'Retrocity,' is constructed with parts of our world."
Deharme is an illustrator, painter, photographer and writer using digital tools to mix these various techniques and he works with 3D and video artist.
"I usually work all night long, surrounded by my machines in my small confined space with my computer, graphic tablet, camera, coca cola and cigarettes," he said. "It's both an obsession and endless pleasure."
His work can be seen at the Appleton Gallery until Thursday, Nov. 15. It is free and open to the public. Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. For more information, call (740) 351-3118.
