Shawnee State University will be holding its 18th annual Veteran’s Recognition Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 10. The event will once again be taking place in the University Center this year. The theme is “Women in the Military.”
Some of the displays that will be available during this event include the U.S. Historical Flags Display, Lock, Stock and Barrel Gun Shop Military Weapons Display, SSU Veterans Wall, Orville Galloway World War II Display, the Civil Air Patrol, Gary McGraw Civil War Display, Ohio Army National Guard Weapons Display, M3C—“Letters to Veterans,” various veterans services and several veterans organizations.
Antique military jeeps/vehicles and 1191st Engineer Company equipment will both be on the University Center west lawn for exhibit.
Along with the displays that will be available for attendees to view, a Recognition Ceremony will take place from noon to 12:30. The featured speaker for this ceremony will be Command Sgt./ Major Verna Henderson of the 16th Engineer Brigade, Ohio Army National Guard.
The Clark Planetarium in the Advanced Technology Center will be showing “The Lioness” at 10 a.m., noon and 2 p.m. The film is based on a group of female soldiers, mechanics, supply clerks and engineers who end up fighting alongside the Marines in some of the bloodiest counterinsurgency battles of the Iraq War to become female combat veterans.
